An old picture combined with an even older picture from Copenhagen 2010.
I leave it to you to figure out the concept.

:icondocomo2:
Seen is a girl looking down almost as if she were a gohst or possibly a shadow (of the past maybe?). With a a turning building in the background showing many windows, one is lead to believe that many things have happened with the passing of time. It has a cold and almost painfull atmosphere and and the girls hair is not perfectly combed almost as if there were a static were in the air. -> Another reason for the gohstly feeling.
The black and white usually has an association to the past and leads one to believe that the picture taken, was taken a while ago.
It leaves the viewer feeling as if either the girl were a part of the buildings history. Or if one were to flip coin, one could say, that we are privaliged with a glimpse into the girls (possibly painful) past.
All in all it is a moving work making one think about why it was done which is pretty much the goal of every artist: "To make the viewer look into the work of art and then reflect upon it inside of themselves.

To me, the windows compartmentalize memories, like drawers. In one window could be one memory of happiness, and the other could be another memory filled with gut-wrenching pain. Perhaps most of the windows lean toward the latter kind of memories.

It's speaks volumes to me, and, through simplicity, it is truly beautiful.

I'm not sure if it was on purpose or not, but I love how one of the windows overlaps the eye, as if it say "the eye is the window to the soul". I also love how the picture is filled with windows iea of just that one spot on the eye (as I personally don't tend to like a lot of empty spaces in pictures).

And yes, that was intentional actually.

I think it's the reflection through her window (not a ghost)
as she looks down at one of the windows, possibly waiting
for someone to show up there....

use different blending option in photoshop next time, now it looks you took to photo's layer two opacity on 50% and saved it... no offense the composition is good, the idea is good, but lacking in photoshop skills. try overlay mode in photoshop on the girl ...
than the tiles really get one with the picture in the channel below... greets !

Actually, I used overlay. And a screen blending mode. And a composition of about 20 layers of gradients and curves.
(If I only would have put the opacity level to 50%, the white parts that sort of burn out the bricks would only have been gray-ish.)

Im thinking darkroom, using enlargers and overlaying the two photos to create one finished project. It reminds me a lot of Jerry Uelsmann's work.
